HQ: Minneapolis, MNNOW PLAYING: An Exit Through The Clouds THE STORY SO FAR: You can only play covers for so long-even in Iowa (no offense, Iowa). And when Skyler Moore (vocals, guitar), Joel Morris (bass) and Brian Boesen (drums, piano) came to this realization after forming at the University of Iowa, they forged a not-quite-pop, not quite-punk sound that appealed to them. "We capture a unique sound that makes us happy," says Boesen. "We don't have to sound like anyone else." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Whether it's their intrepid vocal harmonies, flair for the dramatic (try not to get chills during "Bends Tomorrow") or TV-ready Midwestern good looks, something about In Letters seems suited for the next level. But even though they've opened for Paramore, Spitalfield and the Receiving End Of Sirens, they're content wherever they are-as long as they've got their gear. "It's always just been about the music," he says. "We're just as happy unsigned as we would be on a major label." -Tim Karan YOU LIKE?
