NOW PLAYING: Out Of Our Hands

THE STORY SO FAR:The best-laid plans of high school bands often go awry. One minute, you're housing battle of the bands and looking promising straight through prom. The next, you're out your singer, out the guy you got to replace your singer and out your drummer. Most bands would say, "Good game, guys. See you at the reunion." But not the boys of Noon Blue. Guitarist Radhames Almanzar and bassist Alec Villafane stuck around, guitarist Ian Dempsey took over the vocals and they snagged drummer Mike Rakoczy through an internet ad. "I knew during the first song that we played with Mike that this was going to be our new band," says Dempsey. The boys promptly changed their name, experimented with different genres, settled on a new Thrice-by-way-of-Incubus sound and came out stronger than before.

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Since the shift, Noon Blue have taken their newly shined persona out on the Florida scene with a vengeance. They released an EP (The Shape Of Thoughts) and a full-length (Out Of Our Hands), tore through every show in their path-including an opening gig for Taproot and a stint on the Ernie Ball stage of Warped Tour-and wrapped a quick jaunt of the Southeast in July. And even though they make phone calls from the same area code as a six-foot mouse, Dempsey says this is far from shiny, happy music. "We're not singing about 24 inch rims and shit like that. We believe there's a beauty in sadness." --Tim Karan
