NOW PLAYING: Sicker Than Others THE STORY SO FAR:Sicker Than Others originally started four yeas ago as a side project of ex-Staring Back guitarist Nick Long and friend Asher Simon on drums, but it was a broken bone that solidified the band's lineup. "One day, Nick came into the coffee shop I worked at with a broken hand," says guitarist/vocalist Matt Evans, also ex-Staring Back. "I asked him how he was going to play the show a week from then. He said he didn't know, so I learned the songs, played the show and joined the band when [their former guitarist] went off to school." Add new bassist John Livergood, and Sicker Than Others' sound has become--well, sicker than others in the SoCal scene, that's for sure. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: "To be honest, I'm very bored by most new music these days," Evans says, "so we try to write music that isn't boring and is challenging to play, but isn't completely angular and awkward like many of the more mathy bands today." Sounds simple, right? Well, when it comes to these guys, it is. Their slick, sun-bleached punk sound mimics Jawbreaker at their most Dear You and Face To Face at their most Big Choice--in other words, classic '90s punk made new again.
