NOW PLAYING: Carry Me Home (myspace.com/archiestar)
THE STORY SO FAR: "This band started as an antidepressant," says Johnny D'Andrea (vocals/guitar), who began writing songs for Archie Star-a project with his sister Ria (vocals)-in 2005 as his main gig October Fall were preparing to record their debut album for Decaydance. "My heart wasn't in [October Fall]," he says, and the outfit disbanded in 2007. "Archie Star became my life, and I made the sacrifice to make it my only project."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Leaving Decaydance is like giving away a Lamborghini, so you know the music had to be worth it. The band grew to six members, began playing around the Midwest showcasing their unique co-ed vocal leads and recorded an addictive full-length, Carry Me Home, that has been hovering around the top of Smartpunk's Top 100 for months. "Archie Star has a lot more to say before I keep my mouth shut," says D'Andrea.
