Japanese Sunday
NOW PLAYING: Taps Taps Lights Out
THE STORY SO FAR: Japanese Sunday were this close to becoming another rock casualty. Just as the band prepared to record their first album, they lost their guitarist and drummer. "All hell broke loose," says bassist Avery Brown. "Eric threw his guitar and said we were going to write three-chord music about going to the beach." But after finding drummer Justin Jay and eventually adding guitarist Josh Jackson, the band became a well-oiled machine.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: In addition to widespread local acclaim for their atmospheric, largely instrumental rock, Japanese Sunday have played with acts like Autolux and the Appleseed Cast. They also know (from experience) that their music is good for certain moments. "Our music is there for the person that really effed up and lost the one they'll never get over," says Brown. "When life has thrown you around like a cat in a dryer." [LH]
