HQ: Chico, CA NOW PLAYING: King Vs. Queen THE STORY SO FAR: Some bands go through years of complex personnel shifts before settling on a lineup. For Brighten, all it took was for Alex Draper (bass, vocals) to move across the street from brothers Justin (vocals, guitar) and Jimmy (drums) Richards during fifth grade. "We always wanted to be in a band," says Justin. "Since we had three people, we decided to learn how." In the time since, they also managed to master the fine art of indie pop. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: After they embarked on their first national tour in 2006 (with Eisley), the trio provided a wide array of bills (from tours with Cute Is What We Aim For and All Time Low to From First To Last and Hawthorne Heights) with their catchy brand of melody-laden optimism. "We have a positive message," says Justin. "I don't think there are enough songs out there that actually make people feel good." [TJK] YOU LIKE?
