Verbana Darvell

HQ: Providence, RI
NOW PLAYING: Assorted demos
THE STORY SO FAR: Here's a potent flavor combination for ya: Start with a solid base of '90s post-hardcore (a la Quicksand, At The Drive-In), add ferocious screamo-inspired vocals, dust with a healthy layer of violin, let simmer for five years. That's Verbana Darvell-an exceedingly visceral four-piece who've recorded with Hot Rod Circuit's Andy Jackson and opened for the likes of the Number 12 Looks Like You, Chiodos and Gym Class Heroes.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Because Blaine Wilkinson (vocals/guitar), Kevin Tanner (bass), Tory Daines (violin) and Brad Cottman (drums) are more concerned with history than current events when creating their nearly unclassifiable brand of, well, unclassifiable rock with little emphasis on passing pop fancies. "We draw the hooks of our songs from bands that influenced us to begin playing instruments," says Wilkinson. "We don't milk what's hot right now." [Tim Karan]
